Mohegan Sun Converts to Global Cash Access Quikcash Terminals

Casino Also Joins Responsible Gaming Partnership

SUNNYVALE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–May 17, 1999–Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Conn. has converted to high-tech cash access terminals from Global Cash Access (GCA), the country’s largest provider of cash access services to casinos.

Mohegan Sun also recently joined the Responsible Gaming Partnership, another ”cutting edge” offering from GCA that encourages patrons to ”Think. Be Responsible.” before making cash access transactions.

The conversion to GCA’s QuikCash(TM) machines was performed by a seven-person GCA service team that installed 52 of the new terminals in less than ten hours so that Mohegan Sun would experience no interruption in service.

”It was tremendous,” said Alan Greenstein, Vice President of Casino Accounting for Mohegan Sun. ”They completely converted our casino and we lost not a single transaction in the process. The QuikCash devices offer several advantages to our patrons. They are faster, very user-friendly and extremely reliable - all of this translates into a pleasant experience for those who need access to their funds,” he said.

The new terminals include POS debit, giving patrons another convenient way to access their funds. A touch screen interface replaces the traditional keypad, making the process easier for customers and resulting in faster transaction time. The terminals utilize a client-server platform that is faster and more reliable than the former mainframe system, and they are smart-card ready.

Global Cash Access has been upgrading terminals at its customers’ properties since the beginning of the year, said Kirk Sanford, Chief Executive Officer of GCA. Manufactured by Hypercom Corporation (NYSE:HYC - news), the terminals are Y2K compliant and offer customizable screen messages.

Mohegan Sun has also joined GCA’s Responsible Gaming Partnership, a multi-tiered initiative to promote responsible gaming. Developed in cooperation with the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), GCA launched the program last month.

The program includes an array of point-of-decision messages that encourage gaming patrons to ”Think. Be Responsible.” when gaming. The messages also include the NCPG 24-hour, toll-free help line number to encourage patrons who think they, or someone they know, may have a gambling problem to seek help.

More than two-thirds of GCA’s cash access devices are equipped with telephone handsets with direct connection to the company’s 24-hour call center. Patrons who require call center assistance hear a brief pre-recorded program message and be offered immediate, confidential connection to the NCPG help line if they use the code word ”Think” at any time during a call.

”We applaud the management of Mohegan Sun for their long-standing commitment to responsible gaming, and look forward to working with them in this true partnership effort,” said Sanford.

”Having been committed to promoting responsible gambling for a long time, we support this campaign whole-heartedly,” said Greenstein. ”We are pleased to see someone from the cash access sector step forward and take a stance against problem gambling, and we are very glad that it is a company we do business with.”

Global Cash Access was formed in 1998 through a joint venture of Bank of America (NYSE:BAC - news), First Data Corporation (NYSE:FDC - news) and USA Processing, Inc. The company provides a full range of electronic funds transfer and other services to more than 1,200 gaming properties nationwide.
